Political parties depend a great deal on the largesse of their major fundraisers and the capacity of their fund managers to raise capital. Research shows that most elite political fundraisers in the US are men. In the recently concluded elections, there were only 59 women in the top 500 fundraisers for republican McCain. Obama fared better; he had 148 high-value female fundraisers in his gang of 500 biggies. The stat throws up an interesting thought…you are forced to consider that there is a huge gender gap between the genders when it comes to fundraising. This, when there is a sizable female electorate in the US.
